Extra Can Lights

Before they insulated the attic, The Hubs ran some wire and made note of where it was (measured) so that we could install more can lights after closing.  The builder wanted to charge us one hundred bucks a pop! I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous.  We bought 9 more cans and it only cost us $203!  That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!  My dad was there to assist and they had them finished in no time.

It was a little frustrating watching insulation falling from the ceiling like snow, but what do ya do?

I just realized I don't have any "after" pics of the lights...  they will come soon.

Mantle

The mantle has been a work in progress for a while now.
We weren't going to put a fireplace in at the beginning, and then I'm not really sure what happened.  We slipped a fireplace in and then decided to hold off on finishing it until we closed/moved in.  Well, that was ONE MORE THING to add to The Hubs' TO DO list.  Poor guy still busted out an amazing mantle.  Just how I wanted it!

My Dad gave me a piece of sheetrock that we could put up around the fireplace for the tile to adhere to.  I had to shove it into the jeep to get it out to the house.  Don't worry, we're a titch white trash!

The kids loved having "a bridge" on top of them!

I chose a stacked travertine tile to put around the fireplace.  I think it added just the right amount of texture that we needed.

Next up:  Chunky wood top.
I'll post the finished product soon!

Kitchen

Here's a few of the masterpiece The Hubs created.

Cabinet hardware has been ordered.  I can't wait to put those on and it will really finish things off.

Exterior Shutters

The shutters on the exterior are installed.  We decided to paint them white so that the trim, garages, and shutters are all tied in together.  They have also been touching up all of the areas on the hardy board and painting the vents.
 Pretty snazzy, yeah?
Walk through has been scheduled.
Can you believe it?

Still Working

We're still working...
Broken toe and all.
This is the only documentation I have of injuries that occurred during this adventure.  There were sore muscles, torn ligaments, and blood from way too many injuries.
I think we popped Ibuprofen like it was going out of style!

Wrapping Up Odds & Ends

The builders have had a few different crews here working on little odds and ends.  Here's a run down of a few things they've done:
(I requested they slap down some plastic to protect the carpet)
Still no plumber, which means- no dishwasher yet.
The fireplace surround/mantle is our deal.  It got put on the back burner because it can always be done after closing.  Maybe we'll have a tiny bit of energy left to finish it up.
 Shower door/glass in master.
Just how we like it... Cheap.
 They installed towel rods.
Funny thing is- they are supposed to be hooks- not rods.
It's so great when they read the plans.
They fixed the weird overhang we had going on.
 The front door is BLACK!
Our HUGE back deck is built! ;)
Wall oven, cooktop, fridge, and microwave are installed.
The Hubs will build a frame around the microwave so everything looks finished off.
Still a lot to do!

Carpet!

I was NOT happy about the carpet going in.
I know that seems crazy, but I feel like there are still so many things that need to be done first.  I really don't want all of these workers coming in and tracking crap all over my brand new carpet.  The plumber still needs to come and install all of the bathroom fixtures, sinks, etc. and we all know where plumbers have been.  Call me weird.  Or OCD.  Either one will work.

The Little Guy needed to hop around on it and make sure it will work for him!

 Closet rods were also installed.
The Hubs,  Father-In-Law, and another Bro-In-Law dominated the closet organizers.
Thank you!

Delirious

We are all very unstable at this point.
I'm not kidding.
The Hubs was delirious and not making sense tonight.
And we are all on the verge of collapsing.
It could possibly be related to the lacquer fumes, although I'm pretty positive that pure exhaustion is the culprit.

We brought all of the appliances over so they can install them.  That means we are on crunch time (again) to wrap up any additional things that need to be done, fixed, etc. before they are put in.
Wait- what is this?  Taping off the railing again?  You've got to be kidding.  How many times have we done this?
I never want to see another roll of blue tape again.
I'm sure my Bro-In-Law and Dad agree!
Being the perfectionist husband that he is, he wanted to re-spray the crown after it was installed so that all of the edges and nail/pin holes are covered.
This is how we roll... doing things and then re-doing things... over and over again.
I will probably still love this railing in the future, but it's very hard to even like it right now!
All of these pictures are taken at 11:04 PM.  And we still have A LOT to do tonight.

More Cement

They poured the rest of the cement today which included:  front porch steps, back patio, side garage door access, and any sidewalk pieces that they ruined during the construction phase.

Granite and Driveway

Big day today.
Two hard surfaces have arrived.
Granite and our cement driveway.
Woot woo!

For some dumb reason they didn't cut the granite ahead of time for the cooktop, so they did it in the house.  Can I just tell you how loud and dusty this process is?
Oops.  They added 10 inches to the island that they weren't supposed to.  I made them cut it off because it looked funky by not lining up with the other side.  Duh people.
That also meant more dust and they scratched up the floor while they were at it.  Ugh.
